Glass is temporary, she'll always be your daughter

Great advice right? Thanks Nate. We had a slight mis-hap with something of mine today. I didn't get mad, but I did need a couple of minutes to cool off. Advice for kids? If you are going to break something, do it while you and your sister both have friends over. No swearing allowed at that point.
So, remember the bathroom I just painted blue? I really hate it. Can't stand the blue. So it is time for a re-do. I'm taking advice from Lori and I went and bought a new mirror from Hobby Lobby. (half price this week!) I'm going to tear the old mirror down and start over. Can't wait! I think I am making Nate nervous.
We had a fun morning swimming at Melody's house. A good turn out today. Last one before school starts. Wow, less than a week to go. My girls are very excited, but Sammy is starting to feel anxious knowing that she'll be away from me all day. She is such a crack up. She is always mad at me, yet her umbilical cord is still attached. I think all the moms should get together next week for lunch after the start of school. Yay us!
I need to do a shout out to my very lovely friend Piper. Piper, you made me feel so wonderful today! I love you and feel very blessed that you are my friend. Who knows where I would be if you weren't in my life. Love you!

Christopher Creek

Well, we survived camping in the great outdoors! We had a great few days escaping the heat of Phoenix. Christopher Creek is a beautiful campground and we are even talking about camping more regularly!

We headed out on Sunday morning. The girls thought it would be really cool to live like the pioneers did. Yeah, the back of my car looks like we were living pioneer style. Complete with stoves and air mattresses! It is always amazing to me how much stuff is required for a good camping trip. The weather was perfectly perfect at 84 degrees. Heavenly! And it was so good to be back with the pine trees. First things first, Nate sent the girls out to collect fire wood from the other campsites. They kept coming back with little sticks. Is this enough? How about this? After the first night, they realized how much wood we needed!

It worked out really nice leaving on a Sunday, everyone else was going home! So we had an empty campground and all the firewood we could want:)

My girls are closet pyromaniacs. They can spend hours playing around a fire, "cooking" bark and pine needles, making soup with water or just burning sticks. The uptight part of me could only take so much, so I eventually had to go to the tent so I wouldn't worry about them burning each other or themselves. I try not to be a smothering mom, so sometimes I just have to leave!

Nate made a fab dinner that night. He grilled up some steaks, made rice and threw some corn on the cob on the fire! Yummy! Guess what the hit of the night was?Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm:)

The next day we headed over to the trout fish hatchery. Not very exciting, right? But it was actually pretty cool! They have all these tanks there with the fish in different parts of the growth cycle. We were able to see them get fed. These fish are maniacs!
It's always fun to see something new. That afternoon we played at the Christopher Creek. See how peaceful? The ranger told us that the week before a monsoon had hit and the water raised 8 feet in 20 minutes. Scary! Luckily we didn't need to experience that. The water felt good on our toes. I was taking advice from my photography class, trying to get down to different angles when I accidentally dipped my buns in the water. Brrr!

We had fun nights of smores and marshmallows. Stories from Nate's childhood around the fire. Bocce ball and Horseshoes. Water and fire play. A late night visit from a skunk. (I'll let Nate tell that story.) Best of all...great memories! I can't wait to do it again!
Finally, I had to take a picture of this. For the life of me, I can't figure out why they put a cow on top of this sign. There aren't any meat stores, or a farm anywhere around. Just the "club". I thought it was too funny.

Preparations

I will start this post off subject....I took the girls in to get their school haircuts today and they turned out sooooo cute! I am way happy and will continue to take them to this same place. Sam is concerned that hers is too "tiny" but is convinced that in 3 days she will like it.

Nate has a 3 day weekend. We like to take advantage of long weekends when we have them, so we have been trying to decide what to do. Originally we planned on heading to San Diego. We are becoming beach addicts. But then, genius that I am, I suggested that we go camping. You heard me. Not even in a motor home. In a tent. With no flushies. I am craving some mountain air, cooler temps and a change of scenery.
*Side note* I get that it is hot. I am hot. We all are. But I am growing weary of boys and men walking down the sidewalk of busy streets without their shirts on. I'm not talking about professional or college athletes going without shirts, that would probably be okay. Anyone from the Norwegian Olympic rowing team is welcome to walk down the street without the shirt. I'm talking about the bus boys from the pizza place walking home without a shirt on. Please. No one needs this. Okay, I'm done...(Perhaps I'm going crazy since I've been waiting 4 years for the rowing event at the Olympics. I strongly suggest you watch it this year.)
Nate is thrilled. We haven't camped since we lived in Utah, so we've had a trying time getting all the gear together. We went to Wal-Mart last night to get a few things that we couldn't find. A large cooler and air mattresses for the girls to be exact. Well, this morning I had an inspired thought and remembered where our old air mattresses are. We pull them out and realized that they have their own box, we've been storing them for three years, and we don't have plugs or a pump for either of them. Nice. On the up side we found our big cooler, so we can take the new one back. (I'm starting to think it would have been cheaper to go to San Diego.)
Nate is great and spent all afternoon in the furnace of our garage getting things gathered up. I just hope everything will fit in my car!
Megan had a birthday party today, so we've just had Sammy tonight. We took Sadie and rode our bikes up to Sonic. It is really hot outside:) The Hannah Montana movie was on tv tonight. Sammy quite enjoyed it.
I was on the patio tonight reading my book when Nate came out and asked if I wanted to play catch. I was quite confused, he doesn't usually ask me to get sporty with him since I am so hopeless. Then Sam came out with her mitt and I understood. After a few throws, Nate told Sam that they would play catch and I could continue reading my book:) I guess my throws were too powerful for him. I got some cute pics of Sam trying to catch the ball. There is one where it hit her in the toe for the second time, you can see her freak out. She also got nailed in the shin. She has a huge bruise! Finally, she had enough. We'll have to adopt a boy for Nate to play catch with, I guess.
So tomorrow morning we will be off for a new adventure. I am really excited to get up in the mountains and play in the lake. See y'all when we get back!

Photography 101

Kendra hosted a photography class at her house tonight. I got a lot of great information and I can't wait to use her tips this weekend when we take a quick camping trip. I left halfway through, I slept funny last night and due to the HUGE knot in my neck, I can't turn my head and I have pain. So I was sorry not to get all the info, but already feel like I learned a lot! Like now when I want to do a close close up, but my flash drowns everything out, I can use a piece of white tissue to diffuse the light. How simple?!?! I was totally prepared to give Nate the song and dance about needing a new camera, but I think I will be able to do a better job with my pics with all the tips I learned. I came home and took a couple pictures and I was amazed! Thanks Kendra for the great class!

Men are from Mars; Women are from Venus

Yesterday was cleaning day. I put the girls to work and they got a lot done, for some reason, no complaining! Since they were so willing, I just kept giving them stuff to do. How's that for reward? Finally I set them free. Megan took off and Sammy had some friends here. I kept going. By the end of the day the entire house was dusted, swiffered, vacuumed and polished. The entire house got done! Yay for a small house! A clean house just makes me feel warm and cozy inside.
Last night I was out front and I noticed that our big palm tree looks really bad. Dying bad. I called Nate out to take a look and a couple of guys from the Elders Quorum are driving by so they stopped and we invited them in. They were commenting on the yard and such, (for Arizona, we have a lot of vegetation in our yard) and we had a good couple minutes inside chatting. Nate walked them out and when he came back in I was telling him how nice it is to have unexpected company when the house is so clean. He smiled and told me that they probably noticed that yard coming in and the yard going out. I know that, but inside I feel good:)

The things they say

So when we were leaving Cabelas yesterday, I needed to entertain the kids for an hour so we thought we would play the ABC game. We did Disneyland first, A-Ariel B-Belle C-Churro. You get the idea. Everyone gets a turn.
To celebrate the start of school :) I suggested that we play ABC for school. Apple, Blackboard and so on. We get to J and it is Sammys turn. From the back she pipes up with Jacked-up pencil sharpener! Ummm yeah, okay. Sounds like her teacher from last year may need a new sharpener. Megan gets the letter U. She came up with: U are happy to be who U are. She sounds like a texter or a motivational poster.
We got closer to home and I realized that I am way too lazy/tired to make lunch for 5 people, so I pulled into Taco Bell. As the mother of only two children I tend to enjoy the simplicity of ordering for two. It's a whole new game when ordering for 4 kids.
Sam: Two crunchy tacos, meat only.
Sarah: Soft taco.
Sam: No, one taco and a bean burrito.
Megan: Taco supreme.
Sarah: I want a bean burrito too.
Niko: I want a burrito supreme with meat and cheese only.
Me: Silence...
Me: Niko, that is a soft taco.
Niko: No, I want a burrito supreme with meat and cheese only.
Me: Ooookaaay.
I have to give Taco Bell much credit. He read back the order and it was correct. When I got to window two, she asked me again about the "Burrito Supreme" to make sure they were getting it right. I also have to give Megan credit for sticking to her simple order. Finally we got home. Starving maniacs.
The only thing they messed up was Sam's meat only taco. It had lettuce and cheese. I scraped it all out, but it had already touched the meat. But she was able to choke it down when someone else wanted to eat it:)

Christian....get out you tissues!

I saw this on the Today show this morning. I totally bawled along with Meredith Viera. Too precious.

The Thunder Rolled...

Yesterday we had a gaggle of giggling girls here all day. I spent a significant part of my day doing some cleaning and I deep cleaned the kitchen, but you can't tell. SIGH... But we had a great time. Around 7:30 we started watching a storm roll in. Big clouds, thunder, and lightning. I took about 92 pictures trying to get a picture of the lightning. This is as close as I got. Think we need a faster camera:)

Nate snapped this one.

I was babysitting Sarah and Niko all day today. We headed out to the candy factory in Glendale with some friends from church. The kids were so excited! We got there and instead of a tour, they had a lady that told the kids all about the company and how it started and handed out some candy samples. It wouldn't have been so bad, but she was about 50 feet away and so was the speaker. So we couldn't understand a word she was saying. You can see how much the kids enjoyed her spiel as they played under the table.

They perked up when I bought them chocolate! Not being a chocolate fan, I bought myself a big bag of kettle corn.
Since we were already clear over in Glendale, (about a 50 minute drive) I thought we may as well take in Cabelas! Who doesn't like Redneck Disneyland? Here is why Cabelas is better than the Phoenix Zoo.
*It is free
*It is air conditioned
*They give you tokens for the shooting range. Free
*They have all the animals there that you would see at the zoo. But these don't go and hide during the day while they nap.

This guy was spying on us, but I uncovered his hiding spot. He thought he was so sneaky up in that tree.
An added bonus, I found myself a new coat on clearance. Yes, it is 110 degrees outside, but I have a hard time turning away on a good deal!
Well, the sign of a fun day is when you see this in your backseat on the way home:)

Sunday Sunday

Well, today I woke up at 9:00. That's good right? Especially since I was up until 1:00 reading. No more 11:30 for me. Plus it gave me time to finish my book before church started:) My dad called this morning and it was great to hear from him! I've been meaning to call home but I haven't done it. With all the sick germs in our house the last week and a half I was a slacker.
Unfortunately I've had to cross Megan off my favorite kids list. This morning she asked me what year I was born in. I replied '76. She kind of cocked her head to the side and very innocently said, "1876?" I think I will take looking 33 over being 132. She insists she was kidding, but I don't believe her.
So the girls and I went to church today. Besides the fact that the air conditioner was blowing so hard it felt like 12 degrees with wind chill, it was fabulous! Roxanne, Caitlin and Samantha played a violin, violin and piano musical number and they did such a beautiful job. I was very touched. I enjoyed the speakers and whole heartedly listened. After Sacrament Meeting Lori came up to me and asked if I was going to Gospel Doctrine. I have to admit, going home to grab a Dr. Pepper was sounding quite nice, but she put her arm around me and asked me to come with her. Thanks Lori! I'm really glad I stayed. And I have since had my soda, so it's all good. I'm really enjoying my calling with the Beehives. They are very giggly, but they are cute girls with hearts of gold. Courtney gave me the nicest compliment today and it made my whole day. Love moments like that. We had a great lesson on repentance. I think Diane did a great job. Another lesson where I come home and think and ponder. In a good way, not a "I'm a sinner and need to repent" way. I hate those lessons.
So it is shaping up to be quite a great day! The temps are down a little so I shoved the girls out the door. Hopefully we can get some rain! Hope you are having a lovely and relaxing day!

One for each and Eating Crow

Nate usually works on Saturdays. Today he was off at 1:00. Let me tell you, it really messed with the girls minds. They couldn't stop asking him why he was home:) Well, I decided today would be a good day for a pedicure. Nate didn't. So Megan and I headed off for pedis and Nate and Sammy headed off for some bowling. Sammy bowled in the high 90's. Not too shabby. Probably better than I could do! I will say, that is the nice thing about having two kiddos; one for each parent!

I've had insomnia this week. I can't explain it. I've never had trouble sleeping. So I've had enough and decided last night that I would take a sleeping pill. It worked. I slept until 11:30 today. How embarrassing! I wasn't going to admit it to anyone, but I have a big mouth. So now it is late and I can't sleep. I don't think I should take anything, I'll sleep until church is over:) Such a viscious cycle.

And for those of you that weren't sure if you could be my friend anymore because I wasn't a big fan of the book Twilight....I am reading Eclipse and loving it! I have redeemed myself. I've read about 300 pages today. So glad to be back in your good graces. Crazy Mama's incredulous look is still burning in my brain. Hahahahaha.

Guess my age

The subject of my birthday came up tonight and the girls were asking what I would like and what should we do. And I was thinking, "Man, I'm going to be 32." So like a fool I ask my kids if I look 32. Sammy pipes up with, "No, you look 33!" Yeah...thanks. Megan saved the day by saying I look 18. So now she is my favorite:)

Duh

I must start out my post with a big DUH! This just goes to show that I don't think I could live without my Internet. We couldn't get the Internet to fire up this morning despite all my best efforts. So I decide I need to call Cox and have them fire it up. One problem. I have gone paperless so I don't have a bill with a phone number, and I don't have Internet so I can't look it up. So I give Nate a call and ask him to look up the phone number for me. He gives a little pause and kindly asks me if Cox is in the phone book. Riiiiight. The phone book. I haven't used one of those in a really long time. And yes, Cox is in the phone book.
I had to get up for a doctors appointment this morning, my two week post-op check up. I am getting dressed and realize that I bought a pair of shoes a couple of weeks ago, yet I haven't worn them yet. So I slide them on and they feel way weird. I realize that one is a 9 1/2 and the other is a 8 1/2. Interesting. After the doctor I head back to Journeys hoping to get the right shoes. To my chagrin all the shoes in the back are messed up so they don't have them for me. But wait! They do happen to have these.....

That's right! The $10 shoes that I've been searching for all over town. WooHoo! So it all worked out okay. I have to admit, they are slightly snug, but hey, who hasn't bought a pair of too small shoes? And the lady assured me they would stretch.

Poor Sammy is miserable. I hate to admit this, but when my kids are realllly sick, they become quite pleasant. Not like the I don't feel good so I am going to be a turd sick. She keeps looking up at me and kind of slow and drunk like she tells me, "I love you so much." It's quite cute. And my kids are so appreciative when they are sick! It's the darnedest thing. Every little thing I do, even if it is opening their bottle of water, they can't stop thanking me. Megan is feeling better, but she has this nasty cough that sounds really painful.
On the upside, Sammy's nose is all boogery so she can't breathe if she sucks her thumb. So if this cold wants to hang around for another week or so, I'm okay with that. I don't know how else to get her to stop!

Party all day!

Yesterday was fun and busy alllll day! We had so much fun and my kids and I were exhausted by the end of the day. In a good way!
We had plans yesterday for a blogger lunch. I met up with Crazy Mama who does have a name:), Cara, Pam, and Lauri for a fun filled lunch at Barros. We met up at 11ish and we didn't leave until 4. Five hours at Barros, but we were having such a good time that we didn't notice the time.

Julie, Pam and her son Zack, me, Cara and Lauri! (I stole the picture from Julie, hope you don't mind!)

I've met Julie once before, but just for a minute. Same with Pam. I am having a lot of fun getting to know Lauri better and Cara and I have been friends for a couple of years now. It was a day filled with fun discussions ranging all over the place! I was so happy to see how good all the kids got along. Megan can't wait to play with Liberty again! Thanks everyone for such a fun day!

After the all day luncheon I had to run to the store and the bank and then we only had about 45 minutes until it was time to head off to Young Womens. Britta was kind enough to open her home up to all the Beehives and their friends for a great swim party. Once again, my kids got to go and they had a great time! They were thrilled that Britta has a diving board and spent all night on it.

Another hot day today, I think they were forecasting 110. Sammy has come down with Megan's cold. She has a headache and a sore throat so we haven't done anything today. I have a headache too, hope I don't get a cold. I just realized that I haven't showered yet today. Nice. Maybe I should go do that....

Monday Musings

Loving the cooler weather! Love love love it! I feel like we can all breathe easier when it is like this.
I had to take Megan in to the doctor today for a well check up and vaccinations. It turns out that the shots I took her in for, she can't have until she turns 11. But she was lucky enough to get the chicken pox vaccine. She cried and shook but I think she may have been embarrassed to admit that it wasn't as bad as she anticipated. I came home to see that Nate was doing all the yard work. Yipee! Looks good.
We watched some Tom and Jerry as a family today. Nate and I were giggling through it, perhaps you have to be our age to appreciate it. Then I snuck off and had a nice nap!
The girls had friends over today and then Megan went over to her friends house and Sammy stayed here with her friend. Nate was finally able to break out the Bocce Ball set that he got for Fathers Day. He completely dominated, I can see that I will need to practice while he is at work so I can take him next week.
We sent the girls to bed early tonight since they were bickering today. Trying to teach them a lesson. About 10:30 we hear the beeping sound that the house makes when the door to the garage opens. Nate and I look at each other with big eyes and pounding hearts. Then the dog barks. So Nate jumps up to check things out and finds that Sammy is sleep walking. I had the dryer on and I guess it was bugging her since her room is right there. She told Nate she was trying to make it "smaller". Nate steered her back to bed and she stayed there for the rest of the night. Thank heaven for the beeping door, who knows where she would be!

Contentment

I have been feeling really content lately. Because things have been going so great, I've been noticing and thinking about how my life has turned out thus far. We've had a good weekend. The girls haven't been bickering, the weather has been cooler, we've been doing family activities. Nate's job is going good, I am feeling happy and healthy. I'm just in a good place, ya know?
Today I gave the lesson to the Beehives on Obedience. Perhaps this is what got me thinking. I get really nervous when I teach, but I tried to get through to the girls how important the concept is. It can be a hard thing, sometimes we are asked to do or not do things and we just don't have the bigger picture to understand why. I do believe that obedience will bring us blessings and peace. Does it guarantee happily ever after? No. We are all here for growth and trials. I've had growth and trials. Luckily not as many as others. That is how I know I am feeling content. Tomorrow it could fall apart for a while, but for today I had peace.
For the most part, I've been a pretty obedient person. I'm not saying that I've never questioned things and worked them out in my mind. I never went through a wild streak or was very rebellious. I've always felt that the teachings of my parents and the gospel were for my own good. I can look back now and see that the decisions that I've made throughout my life have brought me to this very happy place. I had and have good friends, I have a wonderful eternal companion and couldn't imagine being with anyone else. I've done my best as a mother and my kids like me. For the most part. Unless I'm being the worst mom in the world:) I was a bratty kid, but I think my teenage years could have been worse. We all survived.
I guess I am wondering what it is that make some people content and others always looking for the greener grass. Does greener grass really exist? Perhaps it does, but it isn't what we think it is.
Another thing that has helped with feeling content is this. And it hasn't been easy. For the most part, I have really tried to give up feeling guilty all the time. Who needs it? I decided that I don't and it has helped immensely. I would strongly suggest it to everyone. Now if I could just stop worrying all the time...
I'm rambling, I'm having a hard time putting my jumbled thoughts down.
Does contentment come from obedience? Or is it a state of mind?

Week 28

This week I am grateful for my pets! I'm very grateful to have them and I am grateful that Nate is patient enough to let me have three of them :)

Bubba. I'm not going to sugar coat. He is pretty lame as far as pets go. I got him about five or six years ago to replace a cat of mine that got really sick and we had to put him to sleep. I went to Petco and adopted Bubba and he never really bonded with the family. He comes out to eat or go outside. Usually at night and usually sneaking through the house like a panther so we won't see him. But if you can catch him, he has the softest fur. I was lucky to get this picture of him. (In case you are wondering why he eats on the dryer, my dog loves cat food and this keeps the food safe.)

Stanley. By far my most favorite cat I have ever owned. This little guy has more personality than I thought a cat could posess. He has also given me the most worry. Between sinus infections and getting run over by cars, I am just happy that he is still with us! He loves to bring me presents, such as lizards and enjoys wrestling with our dog. He has been a great addition to my little pet family!

Sadie. Part Beagle, part Daschund. She thinks she is part human, part cat. All heart. This dog loves and adores me so much! She is my snuggle buddy and a great dog. She loves to read stories with the girls and play dress up. The other day I was doing a fashion show with Sam for Nate and Megan and Sadie kept following us back and forth. She let me dress her up and she would walk out with us and show up her outfit. Then she would go back and get a new outfit and do it again!

I couldn't imagine living without our pets. They add a lot of fun to our house!

Boredom and good deals

Megan has just about had enough with being sick. She feels pretty good, but she is coughing so I have her quarantined so she can't interact with anyone. She is stir crazy. I wanted to go to a mall today to look for a pair of shoes and she had a coupon for Limited Too. I don't really like shopping there; I like the clothes but the prices are too high. But we found her two shirts on sale and with her coupon I only spent $13! WooHoo! I didn't find the shoes I wanted at Superstition Springs, guess I'll try Chandler Mall. Oh the things I'll do for $10 shoes!
I think I have overdone it a bit this week, I've taken a nap the last two days. Or maybe I am just lazy? I'll blame it on the surgery. (I'll blame the surgery as long as people allow it) I think tomorrow will be a day of naps for Sammy. She had a sleepover last night at her friends house, tonight her friend is here. I know, I said I wasn't going to do this anymore. This time I mean it. Sammy is so tired she is being mean to everyone and I think tomorrow will be a loooooong day.
We found out who the girls teachers will be this next year. Sammy got the teacher she wanted and she is over the moon. After she had Mr. Wu in first grade, she has liked having a boy teacher. She was happy to get Mr. Hamlin this year. Megan didn't get the teacher she wanted, we got another first year teacher and I wasn't very happy about that. But we then realized her teacher has been working the front desk at the school while getting her teaching degree. Since I have been at the school a lot, I know her a little bit and think she is lovely and will be a great teacher. So, Megan and I are thrilled to have Mrs. Witt. Now it is getting to be school supply shopping time! I actually like this. Maybe because of what it symbolizes? School days, school days...
If you have school age kids, are you happy with the teachers you got?
Are you kids in my kids class?
Are you ready for summer to end?

Monsoon!

Yay! It finally came! It has been raining hard for about an hour and a half and I don't think it will be stopping soon. The temps have dropped and it feels and smells soooooo good! Loving it!
I took this picture off of our patio.
That rope is left over from my clothes line. Happily I don't have to use it anymore, I'm just too lazy to take the rope down. :)

Here is where the girsl left a cooler on the grass for a couple of days. It filled up with water in just a couple of minutes.

You may be thinking, rain....big deal. But is is so amazing to watch these storms move in and see how powerful they are! Two years ago it rained so hard the girls toys were floating by on the patio. The water came right up to the back door, but luckily it slacked off just in time.

I'll tell you who isn't happy it is raining. My cats came flying in the pet door tonight. Stanley was quite fuzzy from being wet. And my dog hates all water. She refuses to go outside and use the potty when it rains or is windy. I know, she is a baby.

What day is it?

I'm still living in confusion with Nate having Mondays off. I think it is Thursday? We've been truckin along, the girls went swimming yesterday, and last night I went to the Hobby Lobby with Erin and Melody. My kiddos felt very grown up to be asked if they wanted to come with. (Nate had church meetings, they didn't really have a choice) We enjoyed a leisurely hour there and then went over to the San Tan mall where the three of us fell in love with a pair of shoes. That's right, one pair of shoes. Three women. Melody beat us out by having 1/2 size smaller feet. Darn it! Now I have major shoe envy and will have to venture off to a different mall. It was a fun night with the exception of Megan complaining of a sore throat. My kids tend to be dramatic when it comes to health issues, so sometimes I don't take them as seriously as I should. Fast forward to this morning.
EEERRRRTTTT! (that is the sound of brakes) Megan is coughing, boogers, sore throat and fever. Oh, sorry. I guess she wasn't faking. Luckily the strep test came back negative. So we've done a lot of nothing today. Kind of nice.
Bad news for Megan, she needs to be immunized before school starts, so on Monday she has an appointment. LUCKILY Sam doesn't need this shot, she already has it. I will never take her in to get immunized again. Her kindergarten shots could take up a whole blog post. It was a traumatic experience for me.
I am hoping for rain tonight. I think it is storming all around Phoenix, we just can't get it to land here. But the break in temps is sure nice!

Summer Days

Well, I was talking to a mom today and we were saying how these last few weeks of summer are soooo long! The kids are getting bored, it is hotter than ever, and I'm tired of spending money all the time. Just kidding. I'm not but we need to be reasonable.
We managed to stay busy yesterday with it being Nate's day off. We headed to the Hobby Lobby to check things out. Nate's idea by the way. We thought we would then head to a late lunch/early dinner at Black Angus since we had a gift certificate. So we head over to Chandler and get there at 2:00 and they don't open until 3:00. We are all starving lunatics but we decide to wait. Deseret Book is right there and Megan had $10 in gift certificates so we hung out there so she could spend her money. She is such a sweetie, she spent it all on gifts for us! Bless her heart. We thought we had spent at least 45 minutes there, but it had only been 20. I think the really annoying, harmonic gospel boy band singing on the cd was just torture and making time crawl by. We went over to the mall to get a new game. We really like Settlers of Cataan and Tickets to Ride, so we got a new game called Carcasonne. We came home and played it and I was secretly thinking to myself how lame it was, but after we were done, we realized that we completely played it wrong. Nate and the girls played it the right way and they had fun and it went a lot faster. Duh. So, if you get a new game, read the instructions really carefully. :) Oh yeah, we finally ate!

I have a new fun neighbor across the street and to introduce her to members of the ward, I invited a few people to Barro's Pizza for lunch. Just a few. If I counted right, we had 8 ladies and 30 kids. I bet everyone was happy to see us go. I had a great time and it was great to chat. Phoenix pretty much clears out for the summer, so a lot of us have been gone for a good chunk of summer. A bunch of the kids climbed up on the little tractor that takes quarters. I thought it was going to collapse! For a second I thought I saw smoke coming out of it, but Erin was kind enough to inform me that it was the air freshener spraying. Duh again.
The girls had friends over for water balloons as you can see on Sammy on my next post. Tonight I took them with me to Young Womens since Nate had to work late. They had stations set up to pass off goals for Personal Progress. It was really thought out with various people from the ward coming in to teach the girls different skills. Money management, cooking healthy, cleaning and decorating and so on. My girls enjoyed the healthy cooking and they made cute picture frames. Thanks to the healthy class, Megan has asked me to give up soda so I won't get cancer.
Anywho. We are staying busy! Another busy day tomorrow, thank Heaven! Hope you are all staying cool and busy!

Not Fair!

I knew one day my girls boobs would be bigger than mine....but I didn't think it would happen this soon. That sucks.

Sammy is the only one who would let me take her picture, but right now I have 4 very voluptuous girls in the back yard. So if your daughter is here....

AARGHHH!!!

Last night I thought I would quickly change my background and I wasn't paying real close attention to the details. Well, I deleted ALL of my widgets! I spent a really long time piecing together my linky list, and I think I got them all. If you don't see your name over there, please let me kn0w so I can add you to it! Thanks!

Sunday Morn

Well, I guess I'm still feeling the effects of my week; I slept until 10:30 this morning. Nate came in to wake me since we have church at noon. So I have my morning cup of joe (Dr. Pepper) and get going in the shower. I'm in putting my makeup on when Sammy comes in all pumped up on anger. She doesn't want to shower. In her 8 1/2 years, she has always had to bathe and wash her hair for church. This is not a new concept. But she is having none of this. She is now crying and working up a good hissy fit. This week I started a new chart to monitor behavior. Each kid has a chart that says phone computer tv room. If they bicker, or they are disrespectful or they don't do as they are asked, I will cross one of these privileges off. If you get to room, you are there for the day. So I went to the kitchen to cross one of these off Sam's chart. That makes her mad. So she finally showers, but doesn't wash her hair. SIGH!!!! And she is just screaming at me the whole time she is in there. I love Megan more. We give Megan all the credit. I should drop her off at the homeless shelter so that a new family can adopt her. Do you want me to???? Careful what you ask for! She is so worked up that we realize that she probably won't be going to church. I very kindly and unselfishly offered to stay home with her while she napped. And yeah, I fell back asleep at noon and slept until 3. Hopefully I've slept it all off and tomorrow I'll have my energy back. And by the way, Sammy has spent all day in her room. She is very sorry and we are pretty sure tomorrow will be a better day.

For some reason today, we had on Spike TV Stunts go Wild on all afternoon. Ever notice how there are never any women doing those stunts? I'm just saying. You just don't see girls putting themselves in hurts way like that.

Week 27

I must give thanks this week for living in the beautiful, diverse and fantastic country! I am so grateful to be living here, where we can be educated, live our religion, go anywhere that we want to. Nate and I were watching a documentary last night about the war in Iraq and we were commenting that the citizens there didn't pay any attention to the fact that there were soldiers and tanks going down the street because they were so used to it. I couldn't imagine that here in this country.

I am grateful to the men and women both past and present who fight and sacrifice to make us safe and to help others in different countries safe. Regardless of your feelings about the war, you can't dispute the fact that these are wonderful men and women.

I'm thankful that as a woman and as a mother of daughters that we can go to school and be anything that we want to be! I'm thankful to worship my God as I see fit.

And I haven't seen nearly as much as I would like to, but I love to travel the country and see the diversity in the landscape and the people. We truly live in the best place on Earth!

Saturday is a Special Day

Every morning I have been assigning my girls their daily chores. Nothing horrible, you unload the dishwasher, you load it. You do half the bathroom, you do the other half. I have them clean their rooms every morning. (Since I worked so hard to clean their rooms while they were gone, I am making them maintain.) Well, yesterday, I very kindly asked my youngest to unload the dishwasher. Oh boy. She melted to the floor, yelled that I always tell her to do that. It isn't fair. Sheesh. I informed her that every time I had to get after her to do it, I would add another chore. She told me that she was way excited for the 4th and I ruined it by making her mad:) BTW, I am still finding dishes in very interesting places. She showed me!

So that gets us to today. I am understandably a little apprehensive to assign the chores. I'm just not in the mood to fight. I was in luck. She woke on the right side of the bed. She very willingly completed all her chores and did everything that I asked her to. Including a bath and washing her hair. (My kids think that since they swim all the time, they don't need to bathe.)

So...was I really in luck? Or was it that I offered to take them to see Wall-E today. Yeah, I think it was the movie. We went over and tried to take in the 2:20 movie. Luckily a man there told me that the theater was full except for the front row, so we traded our tickets in for a later movie and went shopping. I thought the movie was cute, I like the Wall-E character, but I do get tired of the agenda movies. Just let me enjoy a good cartoon! I love the summer sales! We made out like bandits and even I got a couple of things.

Taking it easy tonight, I have to admit, I'm pretty tired. I think all the chemicals I've had in my body this week have made me not feel very good. But my recovery from the surgery has been a lot better than I anticipated. We are watching My Cousin Vinny tonight. Have you ever seen it? I could watch it over and over again.

4th of July Fun!

Kirt and Melody invited us over for a fabulous barbeque and swimming tonight! We had a great time with fun friends!

It was a little warmish today ;) so luckily they have a beautiful pool. I wasn't able to swim, but it felt good to sit poolside and chat. Kirt, Melody and Erin were brave enough to get in with all the kids.
For a while I thought we might get a visit from a monsoon. The wind whipped up and you could smell rain in the air, but not tonight! After swimming, we headed in for some ice cream and apple pie. Despite all the age differences, the kids played really well together. The men tried out the new air hockey table, wish I had snapped some pics! Nate is used to playing with me and I'm not a real strong contender. I guess Ryan really worked him over. So sad. We'll have to rematch!
Thank you Nelsons and Linfords for the fun night!

Photo Tag

I've been tagged by Crazy Mama...rules of the tag? NO CLEANING BEFORE TAKING YOUR PICTURES!

1. Dream Vacation

I'm lucky enough to have already been here, but would love to do the coast of Italy again! Not pregnant this time:)

2. Self portrait
This is a lot harder than it looks. Trying to make it so your nostrils don't look huge or your chin looks tripled.

3.What are your kids doing right now?

4. Closet

It actually is pretty neat and clean, it looks quite cluttered in this picture. Yes, Nate has twice the closet space than I do. I'm not a clothes junkie.

5. Fave Room

This is the room that usually stays neat and tidy. The colors fit my personality.

6. Fave shoes

I bought these shoes back in February when my mom was visiting. They were only $10 and I wear them constantly. They were looking crummy, so I went back and they still had them! So I bought two pairs, this one and black ones. :)

7. Laundry room

Apparently I need another shelf in there.

8. Bathroom
I didn't cheat. My girls bathroom was actually clean, but I still took a pic of my bathroom. Applause.

9. Sink

10. Fridge

Time to clean out I guess. Nothing like photos to let you know what needs to be taken care of!

So there you are Julie! Happy? Let's see, I will tag as well....
