Day of pampering

Today was a fun day. First of all, I have to mention how awesome my kids have been this week. They have been very pleasant, creative, helpful, and cooperative and I want them to know how much I appreciate them!
Well, to give you an idea how much time we spend at Build a Bear, when you spend $100 they send you $10 to spend at the store. A couple of weeks ago, I got $30 in the mail! Woo hoo! So today was the day. I've been saving it for Christmas break. Yes, I know they just got a ton of stuff, but we need to stay busy! Sammy got the hippopotamus, and Megan got Reading Bear. They donate $1 to buy books for needy kids. Pretty cool.
Then it was off to haircuts. Sammy just hates having her hair combed, and she didn't want to do it today, (or yesterday, or the day before). So I told her that was fine, but I was taking her in to get it cut off. And she was okay with that! We ended up cutting about 5 inches off. Once we were there, Megan decided she wanted a new look, so she took about an inch and a half off and got bangs! She looks way cute. It was fun! In fact, I've been entertaining the thought of a major hair cut myself. Yes, I just spent two years growing it out, but I need a change. Piper, feel free to talk me out of it!

Christmas Day!

Well, I think this year may be the earliest we had to get up. 7:50. We are lucky enough to usually sleep until 9 o'clock or so. But I won't complain about 7:50. Luckily, Santa found our house this year! And we were able to stretch out the whole opening presents thing for an hour! We had a great time, and I'm pretty sure everyone was happy with what they got.

The girls got new bikes and we've been going out every day. I forgot how much your bum hurts when you haven't ridden a bike for a long time!
We had a delicious lunch of prime rib and king crab. Yummo!

There was a ton of food and we were all bursting at the seams. That night the four "grown ups" played Wii. We bowled, played foursome tennis and golf. We had such a great time, we played until 12:30, then we decided Jeff should probably get to bed since he was getting up at 4:00. We were sad to see Jeff, Kim, Brit, and Kaylee leave the next morning, but we had fun while they were here! Merry Christmas everyone!

Cardinals vs. Falcons

On Sunday, Jeff and Brit, Nate and Megan headed over to University Of Phoenix Stadium to take in a Cardinals game. Megan loved having a daddy-daughter day and loved all the concession food. The roof was closed when they got there, but they opened it while they were there. Apparently it takes 10 minutes to open. They all had a great time and a fabulous game. Nate and Megan were caught on camera and they were on the Jumbo Screen! Cardinals took it 30-27 in OT!

Kim and Kaylee, Sammy and I also had a fun and relaxing day. Yes, I took my camera with, but did not take any pictures. We finished up some last minute shopping, got Sammy a new Magic Tree House book to make up for not going to the football game, (I know she would have been miserable), and headed over to Paradise Bakery for some lunch. Then the best part is we came home and Kim and I took a nap:)

Christmas Eve Fun!

Christmas Eve started out with a great brunch down at IHOP. We had a great time enjoying every ones company and yummy food. No one seemed to want their picture taken. Too bad for them! Poor Kim was hungry, and didn't want me to take her picture, so Nate thought he could cheer her up.

After brunch, we thought we would go pick some more oranges. Like I said, for families from Utah, this is such a fun activity! We had a great time, and all the little kids made friends with the kids that live there, and they played hide and seek in the orange grove. I thought about paying the family $20 to leave my kids there all day! Just kidding. Kind of.
When we got home, it was time to make our gingerbread houses! They turned out soooo cute. I have to say, Kim's took the cake. She literally spent hours on it and you can tell. All the girls did a great job!

Sammy decided to test out her America's Next Top Model moves for the camera!

For dinner that night, we had crepes and sausages! Yummo! Here is Nate slaving over a hot stove, then a picture of all of us not quite ready for the camera.

Sammy has to have her medication mixed in with juice every night with dinner. This night, she just didn't want to drink it. But Santa gave her a call and asked her to drink it. Her face was priceless! She was shaking with excitement. Then a few minutes later, he dropped by her house to make sure that she taken it.
So this years Christmas Eve? Great company, great food, great fun, great kids. Does it get any better than that?

Cool Christmas Surprise!

Well, Jeff, Kim and kids got here safely on Friday night. My brother has been telling me that he had an "activity" for us to do that night. Intriguing. So we are talking, and Jeff tells my girls that he has a surprise for them out in his truck. Boy did he! He brought down two coolers full of fresh Utah snow! You would have thought that we had never seen snow before. Immediately we had a snow ball fight! We decided to wait until the next morning to build a snow man because it was so dark. He wasn't very big, but the girls had such a great time!As you can see, when my sweet, innocent little girl tried to pose with her snowman, big Uncle Jeff beaned her right in the head with a snowball! But we were quick to get him back!Alas, between the snowball fights, snowman, and the tasting of fresh snow, it didn't last long. But we had sooo much fun! I'm willing to bet that was the only snowman in Gilbert yesterday! Thanks Jeff and Kim!

Wii had so much fun!

Last night when Nate got home from work, we decided to play some Wii. We played tennis and baseball. I am not athletic in the real world, and apparently, I am not athletic in fake video game world either. Nate was kicking my butt left and right. I seemed to think that if I did full on tennis swings and baseball swings I would do better. Nate warned me to keep my movements short and sweet, but did I listen? NO! We played for over an hour and had a great time. Now here is the embarrassing part. My shoulder is a little bit stiff today. How pathetic is that? So tell me, please, is anyone out there in as bad a shape as me? Please admit it.
So, my girls have been begging us to let them start a blog. We finally relented as long as they keep it about them and not write stuff about other people. (Only I can do that:) ), and they need to keep it private. So I got them all set up today. I'm thinking this will be a lot of work for me. Hopefully they will get the hang of it quick. It is cute to see what they write about.
Only a few more hours until Jeff and Family get here! They left Vegas about an hour and a half ago. Yipee!

Christmas is coming

Last night as I was laying in bed I realized that Christmas is only a few days away. My kids are excited, of course, and so am I, but it doesn't really feel like Christmas to me. I think what is happening is that I am a true blue Utahn and it needs to be cold in order to be Christmas. This warm weather, green grass thing has me all screwed up. So I will shake it off and just enjoy. Maybe it is also because we aren't going up to Utah this week. This will be the first time I've truly been gone for Christmas. We'll see if I can be a big girl and handle it!
Well, I just had Megan's class party. I think it went really well. The kids were not too loud and had a great time. I tell ya, you could sure tell when the sugar hit their brains. The volume in the room tripled! But that is over and now I just have Sammy's party in the morning. They are doing Christmas around the world. I think it will be fun.
And then......drumroll......tomorrow night my brother Jeff and his family will be here! I'm so glad they wanted to come down and spend Christmas with us! I feel like our families really mesh well together. We have a lot in common and we have a great time. They want to go orange picking:) and we have tickets to the Cardinals game on Sunday. And of course, just like last year, we will make an attempt to make gingerbread houses. Last year Nate made actual gingerbread, but this year we are going to stick with graham crackers. So as I am typing this, my excitement is growing and the Christmas bug is swelling in my heart. No matter how warm it is, or how far away I am, I have a feeling that this will be a FABULOUS Christmas!
P.S. I want to thank everyone for the cute cards. I love getting the mail every day!

I am so.....

I was just out looking at my garden. Sidetrack: it does not look good. My cats got into a few squares and they pulled all the ropes down. Anyhoo, my carrots are looking pretty good and there is a lot of them, so I picked one to see how big they are getting. Not very big. About the width of a toothpick. I'm laughing and I show it to Sam and she asked me why I picked it and I explained that I was curious how big they were getting. Then she goes, "you are so protential." Protential? I ask her. "Yeah" she says, "I don't know what that means."
So if anyone knows what that means, that is what I am.

Picking oranges

For a family from Utah, this was a really fun activity. While I was driving to the mall the other day, we passed all these houses where you can go pick your own fruit. For $5 we filled up a five gallon bucket. We got three. Now we don't know what to do with all this fruit, but we had a great time!

Yes, Nate and I were there too. We just don't seem to get our pictures posted as often!

Ten random, stupid things about me....

I've been tagged by Crazy Mama! I am supposed to list 10 things about myself that no one knows about me. Hmmmm, am I ready to do this? Do I have 10 secrets about myself?
1. When I was little, I got mad at my sister and cut off all her Barbie's toes and shoved them down the heater vent. It was a hundred years before I confessed and now she thinks I'm psycho. (Justified?)
2. I am almost embarrassed to admit this, but I hate the Salvation Army bell ringers. I never carry cash, just my debit card, so I feel guilty leaving the store with a cart full of groceries or a bunch of packages and not contributing. But I do give when I have cash. Which is rare.
3. This one shows off my OCD. I love to eat Crunch Berries, but I eat all the yellow pieces first, then the berries, because they are my favorite. You just cannot rush me when it is time to eat Crunch Berries. Oh yeah, they can't be the fun shapes kind, they have to be the round ones.
4. Sometimes I can't hack the idea of something sweet to eat in the morning, besides Dr. Pepper of course, so I'll have soup or spaghettios for breakfast.
5. I love to buy cake mix, whip it up and eat the batter. Once, during a particularly bad hormonal week, I ate three cake mixes. :)
6. Every once in a while I realize I am watching kids shows all by myself. I enjoy Sponge Bob and Arthur. Last week while I was wrapping presents, I watched Frosty all by my lonesome.
7. I can make my stomach ripple like the ocean, kind of like a belly dancer.
8. Once when Megan was a baby, we went to a baby blessing for Nate's friend. We were sitting near the front of course, and Megan started fussing. I got up and took her out. Unfortunately, I was wearing a wrap skirt and didn't realize it had opened until I was out in the foyer.
9. I love to do yard work and mow the lawn and plant flowers. For Mothers Day about 5 years ago, I asked for an edger for the lawn and Nate got it for me! It is one of my prized possessions.
10. I love love love to watch America's Next Top Model. If there is a marathon running, I could watch it all day.
So there you go. Exciting huh? I tag: Piper, Sarah, Alice, Lori, and Sara!

Happy Birthday Nathan!!!!!!

Today my sweetheart is 33. Thirteen years and two weeks ago, (give or take a day or two), I was lucky enough to meet the love of my life. And now here I am wishing him a happy third of a century birthday! There are a lot of reasons why I love him so, I will mention a few good ones.

*His sense of humor. I don't think there has been a day since I have known Nate when he hasn't had me in stitches.
*He works soooo hard to give me such a great life. When he asked my dad if he could marry me, my dad asked him if he could provide me with the life I was accustomed to. Whatever that means. Ha ha. But Nate still brings that up and makes sure that I have everything I need. And I don't just mean the material things. I mean the really important things.
*Nate is a great provider. The girls and I have never had to go without anything. He is great at his job, and he puts a lot of time in there to ensure that we will have a great future.
*He can fix anything.
*He is a fabulous cook. THANK HEAVEN!
*Nate enjoys all the guy stuff. He hunts, plays all sports, Jeeps, and all that fun stuff. Plus, he has introduced all of his girls to it as well.
*Positive attitude. Infectious positive attitude. It doesn't matter what hits the fan, Nate will find the good and run with it.
*Did I mention his sense of humor?

Nate, I hope you have a great birthday. There is soo much I love about you, this is just the tip of the ice berg. Much love for many years to come! Jen

Dear Santa

Dear Santa
I've been a good mom all year. I've fed, cleaned and cuddled my children
on demand, visited the doctor's office more than my doctor and sold
sixty-two cases of candy bars to raise money to plant a shade tree on the
school playground. I was hoping you could spread my list out over several
Christmases, since I had to write this letter with my son's red crayon, on
the back of a receipt in the laundry room between cycles, and who knows
when I'll find anymore free time in the next 18 years.

Here is my Christmas wishes:

I'd like a pair of legs that don't ache (in any color, except purple,
which I already have) and arms that don't hurt or flap in the breeze, but
are strong enough to pull my screaming child out of the candy aisle in the
grocery store.
I'd also like a waist, since I lost mine somewhere in the seventh month of
my last pregnancy.
If you're hauling big ticket Items this year I'd like fingerprint
resistant windows and a radio that only plays adult music, a television
that doesn't broadcast any programs containing talking animals, and a
refrigerator with a secret compartment behind the crisper where I can hide
to talk on the phone.
On the practical side, I could use a talking doll that says, 'Yes, Mommy'
to boost my parental confidence, along with two kids who don't fight and
three pairs of jeans that will zip all the way up without the use of power
tools.
I could also use a recording of Tibetan monks chanting 'Don't eat in the
living room' and 'Take your hands off your brother,' because my voice
seems to be just out of my children's hearing range and can only be heard
by the dog.
If it's too late to find any of these products, I'd settle for enough time
to brush my teeth and comb my hair in the same morning, or the luxury of
eating food warmer than room temperature without it being served in a
Styrofoam container.
If you don't mind, I could also use a few Christmas miracles to brighten
the holiday season. Would it be too much trouble to declare ketchup a
vegetable? It will clear my conscience immensely. It would be helpful if
you could coerce my children to help around the house without demanding
payment as if they were the bosses of an organized crime family.
Well, Santa, the buzzer on the dryer is calling and my son saw my feet
under the laundry room door. I think he wants his crayon back. Have a safe
trip and remember to leave your wet boots by the door and come in and dry
off so you don't catch cold.
Help yourself to cookies on the table but don't eat too many or leave
crumbs on the carpet.

Yours Always,
MOM...

P. S. One more thing...you can cancel all my requests if you can keep my
children young enough to believe in Santa.

Ornament Exchange

Every year in Nate's family, all the women get together and have lunch and do an ornament exchange! I believe we have been doing it for nine years now. I love this tradition, it is great to see all the fun and different ideas everyone comes up with. You can make them or buy them, it doesn't matter. I love this because it is a great chance for just the women to meet together. (And sometimes a few kids get to come along!) Even though I live so far away now, I still make my ornaments and send them up to Utah, and my mother-in-law, Kristy is nice enough to ship my new stash down here. The best part is, I get 15 new ornaments each year! I have so many ornaments, they won't fit on my tree. I had to set up another small tree in the family room. What a great problem to have!

Winter Wonderland

Ahhhh, winter is upon us and I am loving the winter weather! I would never complain about the weather we are having, I am really enjoying it! I have been following the national weather on t.v. and I realize how fortunate we are here. No freezing rain and snow. No power outages or pile-ups on the freeway. Rain is nothing! I wandered out to the backyard yesterday and realized the girls had left a small bucket on the grass. Curious to see how much rain we have received the last couple of weeks I took a peek. There was about 4 1/2 inches of water in there! And I was so surprised to wake up to the fog this morning. Surely that can't happen very often here.
Another lovely winter experience is the cold. I mean the sore throat, booger, coughing cold. Poor Sam has been suffering through one this week. You can see that Megan set her up with Build a Bears to help her get through her day. What a great sister! This may sound bad, but I hope Megan gets it soon. She is ALWAYS sick on Christmas! Not just a cold, but really, really sick. Hopefully she will get it over with early this year.
But one of my very favorite winter experiences would have to be the school program. I love going to my kids school programs. Megan had hers last night and it was perfect! Not too short or long, and plenty of parts to hand around.
Megan had the final speaking part and she was thrilled. "It has the most expression mom!" My kids love being on stage. Megan did a wonderful job and we all had a great night!
