Explorers Day

In 5th grade they have been studying explorers and stuff and they had an assignment to make a caravel. Or for those of us that speaky normal, a boat. (Maybe you knew what a caravel was, I didn't.) Megan was very excited for this project, she loves stuff like this. You could make it out of anything, but it could not exceed 12 inches in length or height. And you had to work individually. She came up with the idea all on her own and got to work a week in advance.

She painted

She consulted with dad (Nate made one too. We don't do pinewood derby around here, so he needs to get these projects done with the kids.)

And we have a floater! Heehee

And she really did do it all on her own. With minimal help with the rubber bands and the hot glue. I went over to watch her race this morning and got there right after she was done:( She did good! She won her first race and then in her second race another boat ran her into the wall. Booooo! I took a picture of the boat at school so I could pretend that I had been there. Good job Megs!
